HISTORY OF CHLORINE!

Chlorine was discovered in 1774 by Swedish chemist, Karl Wilhem Scheele. Karl Scheele heated manganese dioxide and hydrochloric acid, and that's how he discovered that greenish gas, Chlorine. Although Scheele discovered chlorine itself, Sir Humphry Davy proposed chlorine to be an element. It was confirmed. So in 1810, Chlorine was for sure considered an element. Since Sir Humphry Davy proposed chlorine to be an element, he got to name it himself. He named chlorine after the greek word Chloros which means pale green. An interesting fact about chlorine is that it was used as a weapon in WWI.
